MLD is an advanced massage therapy which uses a range of specialised and gentle rhythmic pumping and sweeping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic system, which carries substances vital to the defence of the body and removes waste products. This makes MLD the perfect way to give your body a complete detox. It is also extremely beneficial for boosting the immune system, and for relieving swollen ankles and legs during pregnancy.
MLD was created in the early 1930’s to bring relief from chronic conditions such as sinus congestion and catarrh. Since then it has become an important component in the treatment and control of lymphoedema. For this reason MLD has become widely used to treat cancer patients with lymphoedema caused by lymph node removal.Â

What can I expect during an MLD Massage?
The first visit begin with a consultation to find out about your general health, lifestyle and treatment goals. A Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage lasts for one hour and can be performed using essential oils, talc or without any medium.Â
The massage begins by "opening up" the face & neck, it then continues on to the arms & hands, legs & feet, and finishes on the back. The movements used are different to a normal massage and are very light in pressure, including small circular motions and light sweeping and pumping movements designed to stimulate the flow of lymph and encourage lymph away from swollen areas. The result is elimination of waste products, reduction in swelling and fluid retention, and improvement of the body's ability to heal. This gentle massage feels comforting, and induces a relaxed state of well being.
